How it works

The model is a character-level BiLSTM, built and trained from scratch on 270,753 sentences from Vietnamese Wikipedia. It reads each sentence in both directions and chooses the right form of every letter. It can only pick real accented versions of the letter you typed, so your text keeps exactly the same letters, with accents added.

On held-out test sentences it gets 94.73% of syllables right, and 49.04% of whole sentences perfect. It learned from Wikipedia, so formal text works best; names and slang are the hardest. A fine-tuned ViT5 model from the same project scores 95.43%, but it is about 100 times bigger: too heavy to run in a browser.

Everything runs on your device with ONNX Runtime Web. Your text is never sent anywhere.

The bigger ViT5 model is on Hugging Face.
